Introduction to Ball-Type Swing Check Valves

2026-10-09

Ball-Type Swing Check Valve (HQ41X)

Commonly known as a ball-type swing check valve, it features a spherical disc structure with a rocker arm and hinge pin. It is a specific variant of the swing check valve, distinct from pure rolling-ball check valves (which lack a hinge mechanism).

I. Structural Components

Valve body, bonnet, rocker arm, spherical disc, soft rubber seat, and hinge pin.

The disc is not a standard flat flap but features a spherical sealing surface that swings around the hinge pin; the sealing interface consists of the spherical surface and a rubber seat, offering excellent self-centering capabilities.

II. Working Principle

Forward fluid thrust pushes the spherical disc to swing open around the hinge pin, allowing the medium to pass.

When flow decreases or backflow occurs, the combined force of the disc's own weight and the back-pressure of the medium causes the spherical disc to swing back and press against the seat, blocking backflow and protecting pumps and pipelines.

It functions as an automatic one-way valve requiring no external actuation.

III. Key Features

Spherical sealing: Self-centering and resistant to off-center loads; low-pressure sealing performance surpasses that of standard flat-disc swing check valves, with soft-sealing capabilities achieving bubble-tight integrity.

Unobstructed flow path with low pressure loss; suitable for large-diameter pipelines.

Superior resistance to impurities compared to standard swing check valves; the sealing surface is less prone to jamming from small amounts of silt or suspended solids.

Can be installed horizontally or vertically (vertical installation requires upward flow).

Simple structure; the bonnet is removable for maintenance, making seal replacement convenient.

V. Application Scenarios

1. Municipal water supply and drainage, water treatment plants, and sewage pump station outlets.

2. Central air conditioning circulating water systems and heat exchange station piping.

3. Fire protection water supply systems.

4. Circulating cooling water systems in power plants and metallurgical facilities.

5. Seawater desalination pre-treatment pipelines.
